How we found a doctor on Grazer

He posted on Reddit. People kept reporting him as fake. So we asked if he fancied a campaign.

Dr Michael Greger in a white coat, arms folded and smiling, on a pale violet background

Dr Michael Greger posted on r/VeganDating. The title was about as plain as a dating post gets: [M4F] 53 [Anywhere], looking for my forever partner.

He described himself the way he describes his work — a physician, author and public speaker who runs a nonprofit focused on reducing suffering — and said he was looking to share his life “with someone similarly dedicated to making the world a better place.” He could, he added, “relocate anywhere for love.”

We saw it pretty much immediately. It is not every day that the doctor behind How Not to Die turns up in a vegan dating subreddit, asking the internet to help him find someone.

Then people started reporting him

Here’s where it got interesting. Michael was already on Grazer, and our members were reporting his profile — because they assumed it was fake.

Which, honestly, fair. A world-famous vegan physician turning up in your discover feed has a lot of the hallmarks of a catfish. And reporting a profile that seems too good to be true is exactly what we want people to do, so nobody should feel daft about it.

But it was him. Same doctor, same Reddit post, same search for a partner, on our app.

From a Reddit post to a campaign

How Date the Doctor happened

  1. The post Michael asks r/VeganDating to help him find his forever partner
  2. The reports Grazer members flag his profile, sure it cannot be real
  3. The ask We get in touch. He is in straight away
  4. 30 October Applications close at 6pm Pacific time

So we asked him

If a famous vegan doctor is on a vegan dating app looking for love, there is really only one thing to do: help. We reached out, and Michael was so up for it straight away.

Date the Doctor is simple. Our mission is to get Greger off Grazer — by finding him someone good enough that he does not need the app any more.

His Grazer profile says much the same as his Reddit post, plus the essentials: he can live anywhere with Wi-Fi, and he is not into star signs.

How it works

Applications are open to women and non-binary people, anywhere in the world. It takes about five minutes.

Everyone is vetted. If you are shortlisted, you have a short video call with the Grazer team before you meet Michael. Being filmed or featured is optional, and saying no will not affect your chances.

Know someone perfect for him?

Send them this before 30 October at 6pm Pacific time.

And if you are single yourself, Michael is far from the only plant-based person on Grazer. Just go easy on the report button.
