The language of plant-based dating
From vegansexual to ENM: what the terms mean, and why they matter on Grazer.
- 80/10/10
- 80/10/10 is a low-fat raw vegan diet with roughly 80% of calories from carbohydrate, 10% from fat and 10% from protein.
- Cross-contamination
- Cross-contamination is when animal products transfer into otherwise plant-based food, through shared fryers, grills, utensils or preparation surfaces.
- Death breath
- Death breath is slang some vegans use for the breath of someone who has recently eaten meat.
- ENM
- ENM stands for ethically non-monogamous.
- Flexitarian
- A flexitarian eats mostly vegetarian or plant-based food but still eats meat or fish sometimes.
- Freegan
- A freegan avoids buying animal products and also avoids consumerism itself, often by recovering food and goods that would otherwise be discarded.
- Pescatarian
- A pescatarian eats no meat from land animals but does eat fish and seafood.
- Plant-based
- Plant-based describes a diet built mainly or entirely around plants.
- Raw till 4
- Raw till 4 is a vegan eating pattern where all food before 4pm is raw, usually fruit and vegetables, followed by one cooked plant-based meal in the evening.
- Raw vegan
- A raw vegan eats only plant foods that have not been heated above roughly 40 to 48°C, depending on the tradition followed.
- Seitan
- Seitan is a meat alternative made from wheat gluten, and one of the highest-protein plant foods, at roughly 20 to 25g of protein per 100g cooked.
- Soy boy
- Soy boy is an insult used online to describe men seen as weak or effeminate, aimed particularly at vegan and liberal men.
- Tempeh
- Tempeh is a firm, nutty protein made from whole soybeans fermented into a cake.
- Veg-curious
- Veg-curious describes someone interested in vegetarian or vegan eating who has not committed to it.
- Vegansexual
- Vegansexual describes someone who is only sexually and romantically attracted to other vegans or plant-based people.
- Veganuary
- Veganuary is an annual campaign encouraging people to eat vegan for the month of January.
- Whole food plant-based
- Whole food plant-based, often shortened to WFPB, is a diet of plants in their least processed form.
