What is pescatarian?

A pescatarian eats no meat from land animals but does eat fish and seafood. Most also eat eggs and dairy. The word combines the Italian pesce, meaning fish, with vegetarian.

Where the term comes from

The word appeared in English around 1991, built from Italian and grafted onto vegetarian.

Is pescatarian vegetarian?

No, though it is often described that way. Vegetarianism excludes the flesh of all animals, fish included. Pescatarian is its own category.
